The City of Bartow Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department, in conjunction with the City’s Communications Director, provides innovative and creative communication solutions to promote the department’s programs, services and initiatives in a manner that fosters an informed and engaged community. This is accomplished by utilizing traditional media, social media, print publications, web and video to inform, engage and inspire residents, businesses, staff and visitors, while supporting the overarching communications goals of the City.

Under the direction of the Director of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts, with guidance from the Communications Director, the Parks & Recreation Communications Intern will assist in this mission.

Responsibilities
  • Create content with an emphasis on video production for the promotion of Parks & Recreation and Golf Course services and programs via the City website, social media and other digital outlets.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts pages on the City’s website to ensure that information is current, accessible and easily navigated.
  • Contribute photographs for use on the City’s website, social media or promotional publications.
  • Assist with the design and printing (or coordination thereof) of promotional materials to include flyers, posters, newsletters, and giveaways.
  • Assist in other marketing and public relations efforts for the Department or the City as a whole as assigned.
  • Understanding and implementing key points of social media goals.
  • Platform knowledge, strategy development, content creation, analytics, community building, brand awareness, engagement, and ethical practices.

Education and Experience
Required:
  • Familiarity with social media, especially Facebook and Instagram.
  • Experience with video and photo editing.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • High School Diploma or GED, preferably supplemented by college level courses in marketing, communications, social media, journalism, or related topics.
Preferred:
  • Website management experience.
  • Experience working with government or non‑profit agency.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite software.
Licenses, Certifications,

Special Requirements
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License or out of state Driver’s License required.
  • Part‑time; 29 hours per week.
  • Weekdays; some nights or weekends due to Special Events and/or Programs.
Physical and Mental Demands Essential Physical

Skills:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Mental Demands:
  • Required to use written and oral communication skills.
  • Read and interpret data, information and documents.
  • Work under deadlines with constant interruptions.
Work Environment

The employee regularly works inside and outside. Will require sitting and walking for prolonged periods of time. Works with city website, intranet, and social media platforms.
