this position will perform a variety of roadway maintenance activities on state roads throughout polk county, including pothole repairs, shoulder work, tree trimming, sidewalk repairs, emergency response, etc. The highway maintenance technician i supports the safety and functionality of florida’s transportation system through hands‑on fieldwork and dependable service.

your specific responsibilities:

uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways.

performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision. Operates a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites.

performs pre‑trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment. Cleans and washes equipment.

performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs.

performs temporary traffic control (maintenance of traffic)
