Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Consultant Aquatic Ecologist to join the Aquatic Ecology Team at AECOM, based in the UK with offices in Nottingham, Basingstoke and other locations. The role involves providing technical expertise, undertaking surveys and supporting project development across a range of environmental sectors.
Responsibilities- Undertake aquatic surveys in fresh waters.
- Collaborate with environmental specialists and other disciplines on projects of varying scale.
- Collect and/or process freshwater macroinvertebrate samples, conduct benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, and assist with fieldwork and sample collection (macrophytes, phytobenthos, fisheries, water quality etc.).
- Assist with data entry, analysis and processing for freshwater projects, contributing to survey reports and ecological appraisals.
- Deliver consultancy and advisory services to a high technical standard, prioritising safety and security.
- Contribute to desk studies, literature reviews and data capture, collation and presentation, ensuring timely delivery of survey reports and ecological appraisals.
- Assist in production of Environmental Impact Assessment documents in line with CIEEM guidelines.
- Adaptable and flexible, able to meet variable demand; occasional longer/unusual hours and short periods away from home may be required.
- Experience with aquatic ecology surveys (fish, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, macrophytes, riparian mammals, River Habitat Survey etc.).
- Degree level or MSc (or higher) in a relevant subject with previous experience in an aquatic ecology or similar role.
- Member of CIEEM or similar professional body, or eligible to qualify for this status.
- Relevant training (e.g., Water Safety, First Aid) and a UK driving licence.
- Good knowledge of current environmental legislation (e.g., Water Framework Directive).
