Position: Bastrop High School - Instructional Facilitator

Instructional Facilitator

To assist teachers with instructional guidance that will facilitate growth in student and school performance.

The applicant shall possess the certification required by the applicable rules and regulations of the Louisiana Department of Education and/or the Louisiana Board of Elementary & Secondary Education at the time that the application begins to hold the position. (See Bulletin 746)

Master's degree (or higher) from an accredited college/university in Secondary Education

Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate in Elementary Grades - 10 years of teaching experience with satisfactory - highly effective ratings

Teaching Experience
  • Classroom

    Experience:

    Most instructional facilitators are required to have several years of successful classroom teaching experience. This experience helps them understand the day-to-day challenges teachers face and builds their credibility as instructional leaders.
  • Subject Matter Expertise:
    Experience teaching in a particular subject area (e.g., Math, English Language Arts, Science) is often preferred, especially if the facilitator will be focused on supporting teachers in those subjects.
  • Diverse Student Populations:
    Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with disabilities, English language learners, and students from varying socio-economic backgrounds, is valuable.
Leadership and Mentorship
  • Leadership in

    Education:

    Experience in a leadership role, such as department head, team leader, or mentor teacher, is often highly regarded. Instructional facilitators are expected to guide and support other teachers, so having a background in leading teams or working in collaborative environments is key.
  • Professional Development:
    Experience designing, delivering, or facilitating professional development sessions for teachers is also a plus. Instructional facilitators are expected to lead and support ongoing learning for teachers to improve their instructional practices.
  • Coaching and Mentoring:
    The ability to provide one-on-one coaching, feedback, and mentoring to teachers is often highlighted as an important aspect of the role.
Knowledge of Instructional Strategies and Curriculum
  • Curriculum Design and Implementation:
    Familiarity with curriculum frameworks, particularly Louisiana's state standards (Louisiana State Standards or LSS), as well as familiarity with State Standards, is important. Instructional facilitators may be tasked with helping teachers implement state or district-wide curricula.
  • Differentiated Instruction:
    Experience with differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with special needs or advanced learners, is often preferred.
  • Assessment and Data Analysis:
    The ability to analyze student data (e.g., standardized testing, formative assessments) to identify trends and guide instructional decisions is highly valued.
Collaborative Skills
  • Collaboration with Teachers and Administrators:
    Instructional facilitators work closely with teachers, principals, and other school leaders to improve instructional practices across the school. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for building these collaborative relationships.
  • Team Building:
    Experience in building or being part of collaborative teams is valuable. The role often requires supporting school-wide initiatives, working with grade-level teams, or leading curriculum committees.
Professional Qualifications
  • State Certification:
    An instructional facilitator must hold a valid Louisiana teaching certificate, typically at the level of master teacher or higher.
  • Advanced Degree (Optional but Preferred):
    Many districts prefer or require a master's degree in education, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or a related field.
  • Certification in Instructional Leadership or Coaching (Optional):
    Certification or specific training in instructional leadership or coaching can be a bonus, as it demonstrates expertise in guiding and improving instructional practices at a broader level.
Technology Integration
  • Technology in Instruction:
    Experience with integrating technology into the classroom and facilitating its use by other teachers is becoming increasingly important. Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Google Classroom, Canvas), educational software, and digital tools is often valued.
  • Tech-Based Professional Development:
    Ability to train teachers on using educational technology and digital resources effectively.
Knowledge of Louisiana-Specific Educational Initiatives
  • Understanding of Statewide Initiatives:
    Familiarity with Louisiana's statewide educational initiatives, such as the Louisiana Believes plan, which includes various instructional reforms, school improvement strategies, and accountability systems, can be a big advantage.
  • School Improvement Processes:
    Experience with school improvement processes and working on improving instructional outcomes across a school or district.
