As a Registered Nurse at the Morehouse Parish Health Unit with the Louisiana Office of Public Health, you'll deliver compassionate clinical care while supporting parish-level public health operations. Practicing within Louisiana's professional standards, you'll collaborate with a dedicated healthcare team to promote wellness, strengthen community health, and make a lasting impact every day.
Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse.

Job Duties:
* Serves as a Public Health Nurse in Morehouse Parish Health Unit. Working in all programs such as Immunization, WIC, Reproductive Health, TB, and Infectious Diseases within public health clinics, communities, shelters, and /or any additional assigned sites designated by the Louisiana Department of Health/Office of Public Health.
* Obtains complete health history, conducts nursing and developmental assessment, including anthropometric measurements, and determines deviation from the norm, plans public health nursing care, refers as needed. Evaluates the outcome of public health nursing intervention.
Administers, reads Mantoux skin tests, distributes medications and monitors the effectiveness of the medications for TB patients.
* Provides health education materials to individuals, families, or community groups on preventive health care, health risks and strategies for promoting or protecting health, population-wide health promotion/risk reduction programs, home care for special medical or physical conditions, information on disease outbreaks, weather emergencies, and weapons of mass destruction i.e. biological, chemical, and environmental.
* Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement process, reflecting standards of public health competencies and nursing care performance in order to assure quality of care.
Provides professional nursing care in response to emergency situations in the community and statewide in the staffing of Special Needs Shelters, smallpox vaccination clinics, Strategic National Stockpile, and other public health responses to weapons of mass destruction within the scope of professional nursing practice and policies and procedures of OPH.
* Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement process, reflecting standards of public health competencies and nursing care performance in order to assure quality of care including chart audits, and observations.
* Responds as assigned to all emergencies associated with natural and man-made disasters, such as hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, hazardous materials spills, acts of terrorism, etc., as well as disease outbreaks or other imminent threats to the health and safety of the general public.
* Accepts and performs additional duties not listed but necessary for the smooth operation of the work unit or to help ensure quality of agency services.
