BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY:
The Coordinator of Advanced Academics will manage the district's K-12 advanced academic programs to meet the needs of students and families, ensure the integrity of the program and vision of the district, and ensure consistency of programming across the district. Programs managed by the coordinator include gifted and talented, honors, and Advanced Placement curriculum and instruction responsibilities. Additionally, oversee our LOTE program of coordinating exams, discussing course scope and sequence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

* Valid Texas Teacher Certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned

* A successful applicant should be able to produce documentation showing completion of initial 30-hours of GT training

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to gifted and talented, advanced academics, and College Board

* Knowledge of Board policies, federal and state laws & regulations, student services, and operations

* Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for assigned area

* Knowledge of curriculum design, implementation, evaluation, and refinement

* Knowledge of effective instruction and evaluation methodologies

* Knowledge of instructional coaching practices

* Knowledge of continuous improvement processes

* Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment

* Ability to build relationships and capacity with campus leadership

* Strong leadership skills, ability to coach teachers and campus administrators in the critical attributes of student achievement and intervention

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advanced Academics Administrative and Fiscal Functions:

* Serve as an instructional leader in the organization of effective K-12 advanced programming, including gifted and talented, honors, and Advanced Placement efforts.

* Supervise the writing, editing, and revising of curriculum documents (i.e., Year-At-A-Glance and Required/Recommended Resources) to support the district's K-12 Advanced Academics instructional programs in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. Keep in alignment with College Board and ACC.

* Collaborate with teachers to develop course syllabi aligned to State curriculum, College Board standards, and Texas Performance Standards Project.

* Support teacher learning and mentor staff in the implementation of proven teaching methods for advanced academics, through planning, feedback, and coaching. Make the PD information more explicit for developing training procedures.

* Manage the District's K-12 Gifted and Talented Plan in alignment with the State Gifted and Talented Plan.

* Coordinates the timeline and execution of the Gifted and Talented identification process.

* Maintain accurate documentation of teacher and administrator training requirements and completed sessions to meet requirements for all areas of advanced academics.

* Keep up-to-date with and interpret to staff current research, curriculum development and instructional strategies related to Advanced Academics.

* Evaluate and make recommendations for modification of existing District programs and implementation based on state/federal requirements and evidence-based practices.

* Analyze data (PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP, GT) and evaluate research studies to support recommendations for the District's Advanced Academic programs and to provide assistance to improve student achievement.
