You've invested years perfecting your structured literacy expertise. Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading instruction. You can identify a student's miscue and pinpoint the precise phonemic gap that needs attention. You can construct a phonics lesson from scratch, without reliance on scripted materials. That's the baseline. It's not what sets you apart.
What sets you apart is that six-year-olds are excited when you enter the room. At Alpha, this position is a Guide first: a dynamic, captivating presence students are eager to work with. Your structured‑literacy credentials open the door; your capacity to engage a K‑2 classroom for a 20‑minute workshop is what secures your hire. If “dynamic, captivating presence” doesn't reflect who you are, this isn't the right fit.
Alpha has reimagined traditional instruction. Students work through academic content independently on AI‑adaptive applications—no lectures, no textbooks, no district pacing calendars. Your position is the one area where a human expert cannot be replaced. You create small‑group reading workshops driven by live student performance data, and you facilitate motivation sessions that push 100% of your students toward their weekly app targets using Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age‑appropriate gamification).
Whatyou will be doing
- Creating and facilitating small‑group K‑2 reading workshops based on structured‑literacy principles (Orton‑Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or equivalent), informed by live student performance data
- Conducting daily motivation sessions that ensure 100% of your students reach their weekly adaptive‑app targets, leveraging Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age‑appropriate gamification)
- Administering and interpreting running records, fluency assessments, and decoding probes to monitor progress and refine instruction for upcoming sessions
- Analyzing AI‑generated performance data from Alpha's adaptive learning platforms to differentiate instruction dynamically, not only during planning periods
- Serving as the energetic, relatable adult your K‑2 students are excited to see daily
- Implementing a published reading curriculum, scripted program, or district‑imposed pacing guide; you create your own lessons informed by student data
- Delivering whole‑class lectures; all instruction occurs in small, targeted groups while students engage with academic subjects through adaptive apps
- Serving as a reading consultant, instructional coach for other teachers, or district‑level specialist; you are in the classroom with students every day
- Managing a traditional classroom schedule—subject‑by‑subject lectures, homework corrections, test preparation; your time is structured around workshops, motivation sessions, and data‑driven small‑group instruction
- Grading homework assignments or issuing report cards; student progress is captured in app data and your running records
Provide structured‑literacy instruction that produces measurable acceleration in K‑2 reading outcomes across phonics, fluency, and decoding domains.
Basic requirements- Structured‑literacy certification (Orton‑Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline, plus 2+ years of full‑time K‑2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment, utilizing systematic phonics or structured literacy
- Proven ability to design independent reading lessons and clearly explain your instructional content and approach, without dependence on a published program
- Availability to work in person…
