Basic Function & Responsibility: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Texas Teacher Certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • ESL Supplemental certification
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) for assigned area
  • Knowledge of curriculum design, implementation, evaluation, and refinement

Characteristic

Duties & Responsibilities

Instructional Management:

  • Work collaboratively with staff to determine instructional goals and methods per district requirements, including meetings for Response to Intervention, Language Proficiency Assessment Committee, Section 504 Committee, Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee.
  • Develop and deliver lessons per Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative guidelines, incorporating accommodations for diverse learning styles.
  • Use suitable instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment reflecting understanding of students' learning styles and needs.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Use instructional technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Help students improve study methods and habits.
  • Support campus/department improvement plans.
  • Support students enrolled in various programs via plans administered by the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee, Section 504 Committee, Response to Intervention Committee and Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee.
  • Provide instruction in accordance with Bastrop ISD approved curriculum and required resources.

Student Management:

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Implement multi‑tiered systems of support including Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems, Restorative Practices, Trauma Informed Practices, and Social Emotional Learning.
  • Monitor and report student progress per campus and district guidelines promptly.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Resolve parent/student issues and concerns promptly.
  • Be a positive role model for students.
  • Manage student behavior per Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians regarding student progress and performance using district‑approved protocols.

Administrative, Fiscal, and Facilities Functions:

  • Develop and submit lesson plans, including substitute plans, per district templates.
  • Submit grades per district grading policy guidelines.
  • Collaborate with district staff to support all student groups per policy.
