WATER TREATMENT TECHNICIAN, UPW & WASTEWATER (STARLINK)

X is building a Starlink network to provide fast, reliable internet globally, including rural and underserved areas. We seek talented, creative, and driven technicians to drive manufacturing output and yield. You will own one or more process areas and directly impact Starlink’s products, with interaction with engineering teams and leadership to develop and validate new equipment, processes, and technologies.
The success of Starlink depends on quality, reliability, cost, manufacturability, throughput, security, and user experience of the products you manufacture.
Responsibilities- Operate and monitor UPW (ultrapure water) systems, including reverse osmosis (RO), electrode ionization (EDI), UV disinfection, and filtration
- Manage wastewater treatment processes, including pH neutralization, evaporators, clarification/precipitation and solids dewatering, AOP, crystallizers, and related processes
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting on pumps, valves, sensors, membranes, and control systems
- Conduct daily water quality sampling and analysis (TOC, silica, metals, conductivity) and data logging using tools like Hach analyzers
- Respond to alarms, investigate excursions, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime (target: >99.9% system availability)
- Collaborate with manufacturing, EHS, and engineering teams to optimize water usage, reduce waste, and implement sustainability initiatives
- Ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, and Space
X safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and chemical handling - Execute startup and shutdown procedures for production equipment
- Identify equipment and process deviations and perform corrective actions
- Work with engineers and technicians to create operating procedures
- Maintain a mature and efficient hardware inventory system, including procurement of critical spares
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities for uptime and quality
- Safely handle chemicals and chemical handling equipment
- Read, interpret, and follow technical documents such as manufacturing work instructions
- Maintain 5S standards by keeping a clean and organized work area
- Perform other related duties to support an efficient and effective work environment
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in a hands-on technical position OR an associate’s degree in a STEM field
- Proficient with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point
- 3+ years of hands-on UPW production and/or industrial wastewater treatment experience
- Experience in a chemical manufacturing or oil/gas industry
- Strong knowledge of water chemistry, ion exchange, RO/EDI systems, and wastewater technologies
- Proficiency with water quality instrumentation and basic PLC troubleshooting
- Experience in manufacturing environments or wet labs
- Experience with process parameters and engineering units for temperature, pressure, flow, and power
- Ability to read P& schematic wiring diagrams
- Experience with mechanical equipment and systems requiring isolation, disassembly, and repair/replacement
- Experience with lockout/tagout, job hazard analysis, and hot work permitting
- Experience handling hazardous chemicals
- Experience using MES/ERP for production and inventory management
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and stay organized; adapt to a high-paced environment with minimal oversight
- IPC-A-600, IPC-6012 or equivalent certification (current or past)
- Must be open to all shifts, overtime, and/or weekends as needed
- Work schedule may evolve due to production line bring-up
- Shift patterns include various 12-hour shifts (A-D) across weeks
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted
- Must be able to walk and stand for long periods
- Must be comfortable working with hazardous chemicals and wearing appropriate PPE
- Must be comfortable climbing ladders and performing physical tasks in tight spaces
