BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: To serve as the primary project tracking coordinator and technical implementation specialist for district technology initiatives, infrastructure rollouts, and communication systems. Operating under the direction of the Administrator of IT Operations, the Systems Support Technician II actively monitors project timelines, coordinates field deliverables, tracks milestones, and performs physical technical installations - including low-voltage cabling, VoIP endpoints, and campus clock/bell systems - to ensure that district technology projects are completed on schedule, within scope, and per district specifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Project Tracking & Timeline Coordination:
    Knowledge of IT project coordination principles, task management methodologies, and tools used to track project milestones, monitor schedules, and prevent timeline slippage.
  • Structured Cabling & Physical Infrastructure:
    Knowledge of copper and fiber-optic structured cabling standards (ANSI/TIA), cable termination, testing, patch panel management, and rack equipment installation.
  • Telecommunications & Field Systems:
    Knowledge of VoIP hardware installation, campus clock/bell/intercom systems, and basic network drop troubleshooting.
  • Organizational & Schedule Management:
    Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to manage multiple project tracking logs, meet tight deadlines, and prioritize shifting field tasks.
  • Diagnostic & Analytical

    Skills:

    Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to isolate physical layer connectivity issues, hardware failures, and cable faults.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively coordinate project deliverables with internal IT staff, campus leadership, and external contractors.
  • Documentation & Asset Tracking:
    Ability to maintain accurate project records, asset inventory logs, and physical infrastructure maps for department, E-rate, and bond compliance.

ENTRY

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED required, with an Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field preferred; 2-4 years of hands-on experience in IT support, low-voltage infrastructure installation, or technical project coordination;
CompTIA Network+, A+, Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Panduit/BICSI cabling certifications, or vendor-specific telecom certifications preferred.

Management of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:

  • Project Tracking & Schedule Coordination:
    Serve as the primary operational coordinator for tracking district IT project milestones; actively monitor task progress, identify potential schedule bottlenecks, and align daily field activities to ensure technology projects are delivered on time.
  • Status Reporting & Compliance Documentation:
    Maintain centralized, accurate project tracking logs; prepare regular status reports for IT management and assist in gathering required project documentation for department archives, bond initiatives, and E-rate compliance programs.
  • Field Verification & Vendor Alignment:
    Perform on-site quality checks and physical installations; collaborate with internal IT teams and external contractors to verify that campus wiring, network hardware, and user systems are installed according to project blueprints and timelines.
  • Telecom & VoIP Endpoint Deployment:
    Support the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of district VoIP phone hardware, user connectivity, and communication endpoints during campus rollouts or upgrades.
  • Campus Clock, Bell & Intercom Maintenance:
    Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on campus clock, bell, and intercom systems; adjust time schedules, repair wiring, and replace failing physical hardware as needed.
  • Structured Cabling & Rack Infrastructure:
    Assist IT teams with physical installs, terminations, labeling, and testing of copper and fiber-optic structured cable distribution systems, equipment racks, and network drops.
