Manager, Material Controls
Play an integral role in ensuring the successful delivery of major capital projects by leading the planning, management, tracking, and distribution of materials and equipment required for construction execution. As a Manager, Material Controls
, you will provide leadership for all material management activities, ensuring materials are properly identified, quantified, procured, received, stored, tracked, and issued to support project schedules and construction productivity.
This role operates within an active industrial construction environment. You will work closely with Procurement, Supply Chain, Construction, Project Controls, Logistics, Warehouse Operations, and Project Management teams to ensure materials are available when and where they are needed. Your ability to proactively manage material flow and inventory directly impacts schedule performance, labor productivity, cost control, and overall project success.
Purpose of the role
The Manager, Material Controls is responsible for leading and coordinating all material management activities associated with major construction projects. You will oversee the processes required to define material requirements, establish inventory controls, monitor material status, and manage the receipt, storage, preservation, tracking, and distribution of materials and equipment.
Working closely with project leadership and supply chain organizations, you will ensure material control strategies support project schedules, construction priorities, and customer requirements. Through effective planning, team leadership, and operational oversight, you will help minimize material shortages, reduce excess inventory, improve material visibility, and support efficient construction execution.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading all project material control activities to support safe, efficient, and successful project execution.
- Developing and implementing material control strategies aligned with project schedules, construction plans, and business objectives.
- Managing material control personnel, warehouse teams, coordinators, and field material specialists.
- Ensuring all project materials and equipment are properly identified, quantified, requisitioned, tracked, and distributed in accordance with project requirements.
- Coordinating closely with Procurement, Logistics, Expediting, Engineering, Construction, and Project Controls teams.
- Establishing material management procedures, inventory controls, and reporting processes.
- Monitoring material availability and identifying potential shortages, delays, or supply chain risks that could impact project execution.
- Managing material receiving, inspection, storage, preservation, issuance, transfer, and inventory control activities.
- Ensuring warehouse operations comply with project requirements, company procedures, and quality standards.
- Supporting construction teams by ensuring timely delivery and availability of materials required for field execution.
- Reviewing material forecasts, inventory levels, consumption rates, and stocking requirements to optimize material utilization.
- Monitoring material management performance metrics and implementing improvements to enhance project execution.
- Supporting material reconciliation, inventory audits, surplus management, and project closeout activities.
