Position: Substation Tech.

Substation Technician is responsible for the construction, maintenance and repair of substation equipment and systems, with working knowledge of substation equipment, apparatus, and wiring. The position requires work within confined spaces and elevated work areas and utilizes various pieces of construction equipment specific to the trade. The role works at multiple locations across the state or country.

Essential Functions

The following tasks are performed, including but not limited to:

  • Construction, maintenance, or repair, testing, adjusting, and troubleshooting of substation equipment and systems, which includes:
    • Concrete foundations, ground grids, and steel erection
    • Buswork (High and Low Voltage)
    • Airbreak / Hookstick switches
    • Control cable
    • Terminations (High / Low Voltage)
    • Control buildings
    • Conduit and duck banks
    • Capacitor bank installations 23 kV–230 kV
    • Transformers, regulators and circuit breakers
    • Circuit switchers, motor‑operated and manual switches
  • Responsible for maintaining company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working condition.
  • Frequently works with energized high‑voltage systems, requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
Other Requirements
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Work is performed outside and includes exposure to extreme cold, heat, inclement weather and noise.
  • Willing to work in various locations across the state or country and for extended periods when required.
  • Must be able to follow company safety rules and all other company policies.
  • CDL is not required but a plus; a valid driver’s license is required.
  • Willing to submit and pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
  • Ability to perform all assigned tasks in a safe and effective manner.
  • Ability to understand and communicate information and work in a team environment.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, crouch, dig, climb and reach.
  • Able to lift, carry and place heavy objects.
  • Must have an acceptable MVR.
  • We participate in E‑Verify.
Required Physical Demands

This role does require the physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and perform repetitive motions. Additional details on activity frequency are provided below:
