Position: QA- Lead Inspector_43H2

The Lead Inspector is responsible for determining if product that is being manufactured follows the Manufacturing Process Plan (MPP) and meets pre-established quality criteria. The Lead inspector may work in any production department and will be rotated regularly through each production department.

The Lead Inspector will interface with adjacent shift inspectors to assist in decision making, ensure smooth shift transition, and convey instructions from supervisor.

Responsibilities

The following duties are considered essential to this position. Other responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Inspect product as it is being manufactured. Follow established inspection methods and sampling plans. Inspections will take place in any department, including molding, assembly, distribution, and receiving.
  • Test parts and assemblies using established procedures.
  • Enter inventory transactions as required. Ensure that transactions are performed promptly and accurately.
  • Print bills of materials (BOMs) as required. Ensure that production lines are manufacturing products according to the BOM.
  • Follow the inspection schedule as assigned. (Directed Audit Schedule)
  • Document start-up data in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Document nonconforming product as required. Ensure that all data necessary to understand the nature of the problem is included. Ensure that proper personnel are notified in a timely manner.
  • Attend shift change meetings. Be prepared with current information about product quality. Bring examples of defects. Listen to others who present information. Ensure that all attendees understand all information during the meeting.
  • Review inspection board.
  • Notify management of missing documentation or inspection tools.
  • Continue to increase inspection, reading, and math skills. This may be through independent study, Suncast supplied training, or classroom work.
  • Inform appropriate personnel from other departments about problems.
  • Interface with outgoing and incoming shifts to convey relevant information.
  • Assist new inspectors with training.
  • Respond to calls from inspectors for assistance in performing their work.
  • Promote use of Triangle Decision methods to expedite decisions.
  • Assist the superintendent with quality concerns.
  • Report performance or behavior concerns of inspectors to supervisor.
  • Attend or delegate shift change meetings and convey quality issues to the group.
  • Coordinate inspector assignments as production demands change.
  • Support and comply with all Suncast safety policies, quality standards, and housekeeping methods at all times. Suncast policies have been developed to ensure compliance with employee law.
  • This position does require strong leadership skills since the Lead Inspector will oversee the work of and occasionally train other Inspectors.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Experience
  • High School education or equivalent required. Ability to pass an established test for this position. At least two years of experience in a manufacturing environment desired. Inspection experience required.
  • Must be able to read and write in English. Bilingual a plus.
  • Ability to add and subtract three-digit decimal numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to add and subtract fractions to 1/32 of an inch. Ability to convert between these fractions and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of U.S. weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Be detail-oriented and work well without direct supervision.
  • Ability to learn to enter data in an established database. Prior experience with a computer is a strong plus.
