The Production Scheduler is responsible for scheduling an assigned group of products. He or she is responsible for scheduling production that runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week in a union environment. Materials resource planning (MRP) programs, spreadsheets, and databases are used extensively. Schedulers work closely with several departments including purchasing, sales, production, quality assurance, industrial engineering, and distribution.
It may be necessary to be on call during evenings and weekends.
The following duties are considered essential to this position. Other responsibilities may be assigned.
- Schedule production activities and establish manufacturing priorities for components and finished goods in keeping with customer requirements, effective operations, cost factors, and the production plan.
- Schedule production shop orders in Whiteboard system based on production requirements.
- Coordinate production activities with distribution, maintenance, manufacturing (including production support), engineering, and quality assurance to obtain optimum efficiency and utilization of all resources.
- Develop and revise production schedules and priorities based on customer demand (safety stock), inventory space requirements, inventory cost considerations, and the ability to factor in equipment issues or other operating constraints.
- Compile and analyze production data.
- Work closely with industrial engineering to ensure data files are accurate and maintained.
- Assist with scheduling production labor based on current shop orders, previous experience on jobs, and training requirements.
- Support and comply with all Suncast safety policies, quality standards, and housekeeping methods at all times. Suncast policies have been developed to ensure compliance with employee law.
- Understand the logic pertaining to the item master file, bill of material, and routing method files.
- Assist with maintaining the item master file, bills of material (primary and alternate), as well as routing method files.

- Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Technology, or a similar field desired . Three to five years of manufacturing planning required or five years of progressive manufacturing experience with emphasis on scheduling, inventory control, or planning strongly desired.
- Ability to respond to questions from managers, engineers, and coworkers.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and using effective communication skills, act on these conclusions to achieve the desired result. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to match production resources (tools/presses) is highly desirable. Critical thinking and problem solving skills are vital in this position.
- This position requires an expert level of computer literacy. The employee must be capable of using advanced features of spreadsheets and databases for data analysis. He or she must be capable of learning to use AS400 query methods. Intermediate knowledge of MRP is required. Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel required.
$77K-90K annually.
