ROLE OVERVIEW

The Production Team Member supports multiple operations within Sci Mat Co , including cabinetmaking, plastics fabrication, finishing, and wood preparation. This role is responsible for operating tools and equipment, assembling components, and ensuring quality workmanship. Success in this role requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, flexibility, and teamwork across departments.

Responsibilities
  • Operate woodworking and plastics equipment, including saws, routers, sanders, drills, and various hand tools to fabricate and assemble components according to drawings and work orders.
  • Assist with CNC machine setup and basic machine operations under supervision.
  • Verify part dimensions and specifications using measuring tools.
  • Prepare, sand, and finish surfaces; assist in spray booth operations and equipment cleanup as needed.
  • Inspect materials and finished parts to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Perform minor rework or promptly elevate quality concerns.
  • Maintain organized and clean work areas while following 5S standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including PPE and lockout/tagout requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members and rotate across workstations to meet production schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and company objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior manufacturing, woodworking, or production experience preferred but not required.
  • Basic ability to read work instructions, blueprints, and drawings.
  • Experience using measuring tools such as tape measures and calipers.
  • Comfortable using hand tools and learning stationary equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Basic math skills, including fractions and decimals.
  • Basic computer skills for production tracking and documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
Work Schedule

The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, first shift, from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with occasional overtime based on business needs.

DEPARTMENT ASSIGNMENT

Employees may have a designated home department for administrative and scheduling purposes. However, Operations Team Members are expected to support other departments where they are trained and qualified as business needs require. Work assignments are determined by management based on operational needs, staffing levels, and customer demand. Employees are expected to report to and perform work in their assigned area.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position works in a manufacturing environment and may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, dust, loud noise, and varying temperatures. Employees are required to follow all established safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety-toe footwear.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday and regularly bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions. Employees must be able to regularly lift, carry, push, and/or move up to 50 pounds independently. Items over 50 pounds must be handled with assistance, mechanical support, or appropriate lifting equipment. Employees must also be able to safely operate tools and equipment in a production environment.

Safety-toe protective footwear is required.
