Auto Mechanic Apprentice / Mechanical Assembler-Technician

This role offers an opportunity to develop hands-on mechanical skills by assembling and outfitting light and small-duty vans and trucks in a close-knit, family-style environment. You will support the build-out of service vehicles through mechanical assembly, basic wiring, and installation work while learning from experienced technicians and contributing to a growing operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble and modify light and small-duty vans and trucks, including HVAC trucks and small delivery vans.
  • Perform mechanical assembly tasks such as installing components, brackets, and accessories on vehicles.
  • Install and wire equipment and accessories, including occasional 12-volt electrical work, under guidance and according to instructions.
  • Build and install shelves and related structures in the shop and within vehicles as required.
  • Read and follow basic blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to complete assembly and installation tasks accurately.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to perform mechanical and electrical assembly work.
  • Operate a sit-down forklift if qualified, or assist with material movement as directed.

Essential

Skills:

  • At least 1 year of mechanical assembly experience in a shop, production, or similar environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to consistently lift and carry 50 pounds or more throughout the shift.
  • Demonstrated reliability, including strong attendance and punctuality.
  • Coachable attitude with a strong willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Positive, team-focused mindset and willingness to help wherever needed.
  • Basic familiarity with mechanical assembly processes and production environments.
  • Ability to follow instructions, blueprints, and basic schematics for assembly and installation tasks.

Additional Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Experience with 12-volt electrical systems or basic electrical work.
  • Background in installation and wiring of equipment or accessories.
  • Experience operating a sit-down forklift.
  • Exposure to electrical assembly, wiring, and schematic reading.
  • Experience working with HVAC trucks, service vehicles, or similar light-duty trucks and vans.
  • Comfort working in a general labor or production environment where multiple tasks and responsibilities may be assigned.

Work Environment:

This is a first-shift role with hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, providing a consistent daytime schedule. You will work in a small, close-knit facility that was recently acquired and prepared for incoming trucks, currently staffed by a handful of employees on-site and supported by a broader team across multiple locations nationwide. The shop environment focuses on outfitting and assembling light and small-duty vans and trucks using hand and power tools, mechanical assembly equipment, and, where applicable, sit-down forklifts for material handling.

The setting is hands-on, collaborative, and production-oriented, with an emphasis on safety, teamwork, and maintaining an organized workspace.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Batavia, IL.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
