How you make a differenceThe Certified Nursing Assistant performs basic and specialized nursing care functions under the supervision of licensed nurses. The role adheres to local and regulatory policies and collaborates with other healthcare team members and correctional officers to plan and implement patient care activities in a correctional setting. After a general orientation to medical‑surgical and psychiatric patient care areas, the CNA may float between units to ensure adequate nursing staff for patient care areas.
Key Responsibilities- Provides basic nursing care to patients under the direction of a licensed nurse, including assistance with ADLs, vital sign measurement, and accurate documentation of patient data.
- Maintains professional behavior and prioritizes workflow to ensure completion of all assigned duties while adhering to policies and procedures, promoting patient safety and confidentiality.
- Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team, participates in staff meetings and training sessions, and notifies the licensed nurse of any patient concerns or issues.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of nursing procedures and proficiently uses medical supplies and equipment, while ensuring their proper storage and cleaning.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising nurse, such as assisting with patient care in different units and participating in the orientation of new staff members.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a training course for Nursing Assistants.
- Knowledge of basic patient care methods, procedures, and techniques.
- Ability to handle a variety of routine tasks while maintaining orderly workflow.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Must be able to pass and maintain clearance for a Public Trust Position, if working with specific patients.
- Ability to express thoughts logically in English, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with computers and typical software such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and various database systems.
- Current certification in the state of practice is required.
