A MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welder uses specialized machinery to join metal pieces together using a continuous wire feed and shielding gas. Core daily duties include reading blueprints, setting up and adjusting welding equipment, cleaning metal surfaces, and inspecting finished welds for strength and structural defects.
Second Shift Mig Welder hours are Monday through Saturday 4:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
Job Responsibilities- Read Blueprints:
Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and welding symbols. - Operate Equipment:
Set up and run MIG welding machines, gas supplies, wire feeds, and grinders. - Prepare Materials:
Measure, cut, and clean metal work pieces before joining. - Weld Components:
Join parts securely in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. - Inspect Quality:
Test and examine completed welds for cracks, flaws, or structural weakness. - Maintain Safety:
Follow shop safety rules, wear proper protective gear, and keep the work area clean.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent. - Experience:
1+ years of hands-on MIG welding or metal fabrication experience. - Technical
Skills:
Knowledge of wire types, gas ratios, and basic machine troubleshooting. - Physical Strength:
Ability to stand for long shifts, bend, and lift up to 50-75 pounds. - Certifications:
AWS (American Welding Society) certification or local trade school completion preferred by many employers.
