Core Responsibilities
- Operate Equipment:
Set up and run MIG welding machines, gas supplies, and wire feed speeds. - Read Blueprints:
Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and welding symbols. - Prepare Materials:
Clean, grind, cut, and fit metal parts before welding. - Weld Components:
Join metals in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. - Inspect Quality:
Check finished welds for cracks, flaws, or structural weaknesses. - Maintain Tools:
Clean equipment and perform routine maintenance on torches and machines.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent. - Training:
Completion of a formal welding certification, technical program, or hands‑on apprenticeship. - Experience:
6 months to 2+ years of hands‑on welding experience in a manufacturing or fabrication shop. - Physical Strength:
Ability to stand for long periods, bend, and lift heavy metal parts ( often 50–75 lbs). - Safety Knowledge:
Strict adherence to OSHA guidelines and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like helmets and gloves. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
