About The Role
We are recruiting a Research Associate who will undertake fundamental research in large‑scale transmission system modelling.
They will help with the identification of key energy and system imbalancing for the GB system and beyond. Looking at how this might change with a rapid increase in renewable generation and evolving clean flexibility across the whole system.
The Research Associate is expected to develop scalable solutions, address the most pressing imbalances from a combination of technical and commercial solutions, to drive agile network investment and operation.
Your duties will include
- Conduct independent research addressing the modelling, analysis, and operation of large energy networks
- Experience in collation, synthesize and analyse data from practical systems, such as GB systems
- Embracing new approaches in dealing with complex system of systems
- Contribute to the production of research reports and publications
- Provide support to project staff and help with supervision of student projects
This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) for a duration of 24 months to December 2027.

As a member of Research Staff at the University of Bath, you will be encouraged to take up a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year.
A lower grade offer may be made (Grade
6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to Research Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to Research Associate once their PhD has been awarded.
