The Nutrition Counselor II supports the WIC program by determining participant eligibility, assessing nutritional needs, and providing nutrition education and counseling. This role works closely with pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, as well as infants and children under five, and supports outreach services, including off-site clinics.
Key Responsibilities- Determine WIC eligibility and assess nutritional risk
- Conduct dietary assessments and identify education needs
- Provide nutrition counseling to women, infants, and children under five
- Take anthropometric and hematological measurements
- Provide education and referrals related to immunizations, prenatal care, health screenings, and substance cessation
- Complete administrative tasks, including orientations, charting, data entry, referrals, CEU tracking, and participant surveys
- Support and oversee outreach clinics while maintaining excellent customer service
- Associate degree in nutrition or a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of two years of related experience
- Seven hours of lactation-related continuing education within the past two years
- At least one year of experience counseling breastfeeding mothers and families with children ages 0-5
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with computers and common software applications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and state-required auto insurance
- Ability to meet MMCA safe driving standards
- Successful completion of DHHS Child Protective Services and motor vehicle background checks
- Full-time, Monday–Friday (40 hours/week)
