We offer a competitive salary for this role, with an expected range of $71,500–$90,600. The final offer will depend on your experience, skills, and overall qualifications. Operating within the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Supervisor, Electrical Design is responsible for leading and managing a team of 20+ electrical designers engaged in multiple stages of ship design, including scoping, development, production, and change incorporation. The role is accountable for the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of design models and drawings, as well as for the professional development and performance of assigned personnel.
Key Responsibilities Safety Leadership:- Promotes a culture of proactive safety awareness and accountability across the team.
- Ensures safe workplace conditions and compliance with company safety standards.
- Maintains regular communications with staff as it relates to ergonomic and Shipyard safety.
- Leading daily operations of the Electrical Design team and ensuring all tasks are executed to established schedule, budget, and quality standards.
- Providing process and technical guidance to designers and supporting continuous improvement in workflows and cross-team communication.
- Conducting regular performance feedback, coaching, documentation, and development planning, including mitigation of single-point failures.
- Evaluating workload requirements and establishing staffing levels necessary to complete assigned work.
- Reporting progress and status at various management-level meetings.
- Providing project performance metrics, including cost and schedule indicators.
- Providing on-call weekend coverage on a rotational basis.
- Coordinating work with Engineering, Planning, Production, and other design disciplines to support program objectives.
- Administering the BIW/BMDA contract, including coordinating staffing plans and shift coverage in alignment with contract requirements.
- Champions BOS principles and productivity enhancements across the team.
- Leverages A3 root cause analysis and associated corrective action plans for identified design issues.
- Ensuring accurate timekeeping, charging, and adherence to standard work processes.
- BS or AS degree in Electrical Design, Engineering, or a related field, and a minimum of 3 years of experience in an Engineering, Design, or Manufacturing leadership role.
- Graduation from the BIW Apprenticeship Program and a minimum of 3 years of experience in an Engineering, Design, or Manufacturing leadership role.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an Engineering, Design, or Manufacturing leadership role.
- Solid understanding of shipbuilding processes (preferred).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (required).
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow drawings, models, procedures, standards, and work instructions (required).
- Strong leadership qualities, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to employee development (required).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities (required).
- Ability to provide responsive and appropriate feedback to customers and management requests for information (required).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (required).
- Demonstrated leadership experience with increasing responsibility in a team environment (required).
- Ability to obtain a security clearance if required.
- Experience supervising represented employees and applying collective bargaining agreements in daily operations (preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships with union leadership while maintaining performance and attendance standards (preferred).
- Familiarity with project performance metrics, including cost and schedule indicators (preferred).
