Overview

Join the Office of the State Public Defender (OSPD) in Louisiana. OSPD oversees the delivery of high‑quality legal services to indigent individuals accused of crimes across 64 parishes. As a key member of the audit team, you will promote accountability, transparency, and operational excellence across 42 district public defender offices, conducting monthly, quarterly, and annual audits to evaluate compliance with state laws, rules, and regulations, assess organizational effectiveness and efficiency, and support equitable distribution of state funding.

• Review and evaluate annual, quarterly, and monthly financial and other mandatory reports submitted by the 42 district public defender offices for compliance with OSPD and state policies and procedures; review district annual budgets and budget revisions; communicate approvals, issues, and recommendations to districts; provide corrective recommendations and follow up on corrective status.
• Schedule and perform on‑site district office field audits to determine office effectiveness and efficiencies; prepare reports based on audit findings; follow up on corrective recommendations.
• Review districts' required annual independent CPA audits and prepare review letters with recommendations.
• Develop the OSPD audit plan and protocols and provide them to the districts; meet with district and OSPD staff as necessary; maintain audit records/documentation as required by OSPD retention schedules.
• Perform other audit/compliance related tasks as assigned by the SPD/SPM

• Three years of experience in accounting or auditing; OR
• Six years of full‑time experience in any field plus twenty‑four semester hours in one or a combination of the following: accounting, auditing, business, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, or information systems; OR
• A bachelor’s degree with twenty‑four semester hours in one or a combination of the following: accounting, auditing, business, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, or information systems; OR
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business administration, management, economics, information systems, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
• A bachelor’s degree plus a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified Government Audit Professional (CGAP) designation; OR
• An advanced degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business administration, management, economics, information systems, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
• A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation.

Experience Substitution: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience toward the six years of full‑time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours, which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
