Healthcare Administration, Medical Receptionist
JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION
Performs general receptionist and secretarial duties. Operates a multi-station switchboard by answering, routing calls and assisting customers efficiently and courteously. Facilitates voice paging and/or other internal communications including responding to emergency codes. Responsible for posting patient charge information through the computer system. Providing assistance for Inpatient Admission, Outpatient Admission & Pain Management Admission.
JOB FUNCTIONSESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:
Greets and receives guests, ascertains their needs, and appropriately directs guests or callers.
- Courteously answers the telephone and receives guests.
- Responds to telephone by the third ring and promptly acknowledges caller.
- Assists guest or caller by answering questions or providing information, and determines when referral to other staff is appropriate.
- Takes accurate messages and repeats key information to ensure accuracy.
- Respects at all times the confidentiality of information.
Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to word process and format standard office documents.
- Consistently completes all work processing assignments accurately.
- Assignments are completed on a timely basis.
- Always proofreads final copy.
Demonstrates effectiveness in operating telephone console to receive, route, and/or place calls.
- Answers all incoming calls within 3 rings.
- Receives, places, and transfers calls using appropriate telephone etiquette.
- Handles telephone requests with courtesy, accuracy and respect for confidentiality.
- Demonstrates responsibility for verbal and paging all emergency/disaster codes according to policy.
- Places long distance calls for authorized parties only.
Enter patient charges through computer system.
- Enters proper information into appropriate computer system with consistent accuracy, and within established time frames.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of procedure and diagnosis codes as related to Medical Billing.
- Updates system information daily according to charges received and processed.
- Ensures that all forms received are fully completed.
- Seeks clear direction to resolve issues and bring problems to a proper resolution with department manager.
Provides assistance for Inpatient Admissions, Outpatient Admissions and Pain Management Admissions.
- Provide assistance to various departments as needed.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Excellent telephone, customer service and communication skills required. Experience in switchboard, receptionist, or clerical work preferred.
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSHigh school diploma preferred.
SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTSExperience in Windows, Excel, Word and Outlook preferred. Must be able to enter data using a computer with multiple applications.
HIPAA REQUIREMENTSMaintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: patient demographics, patient related complaints, and information related to patient location.
