Discovery Health Sciences Schools is currently seeking a full-time HR Associate to join our growing team!
Discovery Schools opened their doors in Jefferson Parish in 2013 as a K-12 charter school created to give families choice in public education. Discovery has grown to a network of 3 schools with a Health Sciences mission. Across our four campuses in Kenner and Metairie and Baton Rouge our 400+ teachers/staff serve over 3,000 students in Pre‑K‑12th grade. Baton Rouge Ochsner Discovery School is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and professional Human Resources Associate to support the campus with day‑to‑day human resources operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring smooth school operations by managing teacher attendance, coordinating classroom coverage and guest teacher services, and assisting with a wide range of HR‑related matters. The ideal candidate is an independent worker who demonstrates initiative, strong communication skills, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a point of contact for staff regarding HR questions and procedures
- Support communication between school leadership, HR department, and staff
- Assist the Principal with HR‑related matters, including employee documentation, onboarding support, and compliance tracking
- Track and monitor teacher and staff attendance
- Assist with coordinating classroom coverage and manage the guest teacher program
- Communicate promptly with guest teachers, staff, and administrators to ensure instructional continuity
- Maintain attendance logs and reports for administrative review
- Prepare reports, correspondence, and documentation related to HR and staffing
- Support school leadership with scheduling, follow‑ups, and task completion
- Identify operational needs and take initiative to resolve issues proactively
- Ensure deadlines are met and tasks are completed accurately and efficiently
- Additional duties as assigned
- Previous experience in HR, school administration, or an educational setting
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative with minimal supervision
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills
- High level of professionalism and confidentiality
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience with attendance tracking or guest teacher management systems
- Familiarity with HR policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
- Proactive problem‑solver with a strong sense of responsibility
- Dependable, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Collaborative team member who can also work independently
