Overview

Baton Rouge Charter School for Dyslexic Children is dedicated to providing a supportive and effective learning environment for students with dyslexia. We are seeking highly motivated educators who are eager to develop their expertise in evidence-based practices for dyslexia education. This is a unique opportunity for certified teachers to pursue further certification as a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT). Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver specialized instruction tailored to the needs of students with dyslexia
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development in evidence-based dyslexia teaching methods
  • Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and families to support student progress
  • Maintain detailed records of student assessments, progress, and instructional strategies
  • Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to meet individual student needs
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
Skills and Qualifications
  • Valid teaching certification in relevant grade levels or subject areas
  • Experience or interest in working with students with learning differences, particularly dyslexia
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based reading and language instruction practices
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to diverse learning needs
  • Commitment to professional growth and continuous learning
  • A strong desire to receive rigorous, ongoing professional training to deeply understand dyslexia and the effect of dyslexia on academic life
  • An open‑minded attitude toward academic instruction, including a willingness to “work outside the box” of traditional instructional methods
  • A willingness to receive and implement feedback regarding instructional practices
  • Evidence of strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Willingness to participate in highly collaborative lesson planning and teaching situations
  • Evidence of individualized, interactive teaching philosophy
  • Highly preferred:
    Experience with special education
