Instructor - American Sign Language Studies (ASLS) Responsibilities
- Teach the equivalent of five (5) courses per semester (fall and spring).
- Develop and revise curricula.
- Advise ASLS students.
- College service: committee assignments, recruitment events, etc.
- Professional development: conferences, workshops, publications, etc.
- Serve as program manager for the Associate of Arts in American Sign Language Studies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following or a closely related field:
- American Sign Language
- Linguistics
- Sign Language Studies
- Sign Language Education
- Interpreter Education
- Deaf Education
- Deaf Culture
- Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from RID
- Certification from the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA)
- Or an equivalent recognized certification
Master’s degree in one of the following or a closely related field:
- American Sign Language
- Linguistics
- Sign Language Studies
- Sign Language Education
- Interpreter Education
- Deaf Education
- Deaf Culture
Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching American Sign Language at the college or university level.
