Position: Instructor - American Sign Language Studies (ASLS)

Instructor - American Sign Language Studies (ASLS) Responsibilities

  • Teach the equivalent of five (5) courses per semester (fall and spring).
  • Develop and revise curricula.
  • Advise ASLS students.
  • College service: committee assignments, recruitment events, etc.
  • Professional development: conferences, workshops, publications, etc.
  • Serve as program manager for the Associate of Arts in American Sign Language Studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following or a closely related field:

  • American Sign Language
  • Linguistics
  • Sign Language Studies
  • Sign Language Education
  • Interpreter Education
  • Deaf Education
  • Deaf Culture
Credentials
  • Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
  • National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from RID
  • Certification from the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA)
  • Or an equivalent recognized certification
Preferred Education

Master’s degree in one of the following or a closely related field:

  • American Sign Language
  • Linguistics
  • Sign Language Studies
  • Sign Language Education
  • Interpreter Education
  • Deaf Education
  • Deaf Culture

Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching American Sign Language at the college or university level.
