Thrive Academy Teacher

THRIVE is a school unlike any other – one of the first boarding schools in the country serving at-risk students. The mission of THRIVE is to empower students from underserved Louisiana communities and prepare them academically and personally for success in college and beyond. THRIVE aims to reach this goal through a world-class school in a boarding setting. Serving grades seven through twelve, THRIVE will provide the students and families of Louisiana with a never before-seen service – a free public boarding school.

By combining the best educational methods with a 24-hour supportive environment, THRIVE seeks to provide students with a place to learn where nothing can get in the way.

THRIVE Teachers embrace the following beliefs:

Endurance – I am determined to be an effective teacher, and I will always work hard in all things regardless of how difficult it might become:

• I will attend and actively participate in every day of orientation, training, staff development, and pre-planning prior to the start of and during the school year.
• I will always put forth my best effort to deliver engaging and effective lessons, even when I feel overwhelmed and tired.
• I will do 'whatever it takes' to ensure that my students are successful.

Independence – I will strive to model the attributes of a scholar and will challenge my students to become well disciplined scholars:

• I will come to school on time and prepared each day, with well-planned lessons and with all necessary materials.
• I will complete all of my job responsibilities to the best of my ability, and I will always be a constant learner, seeking out opportunities to develop myself professionally.
• I will assign homework regularly, and I will provide my cell phone number to students for homework assistance after hours.
• I will strive to always be organized and to keep my classroom neat.
• I will take advantage of every opportunity I have to teach my students and will operate with a'sense of urgency' in order to ensure their academic success.

Compassion – Through the collective work and example of teachers, parents, and administrators THRIVE students will involve themselves within their community by planning and participating in extensive community involvement projects throughout their time at THRIVE.

• I will support students in finding and creating projects that are meaningful to their community and to them.
• I understand that at THRIVE problems will be solved by taking ownership of one's actions, showing compassion for others through acceptance of the other's opinions and creating partnerships allowing for open discussion; I will consistently model this course of action.
• I will support peer mediation training; consistently model how to make decisions that are preventative of problems; and model and encourage behaviors that lead to positive consequences.
• I will work hard to plan lessons that are fun and engaging for students, while ensuring that learning is never compromised.
• I will always try to have a good sense of humor and will demonstrate to students that learning can be fun.
• I will smile often so as to create a warm and welcoming environment.
• I will fully participate in all fun activities planned for the staff.
• I will do my part to make THRIVE a fun place to learn.

Partnership – I understand that I am a partner to THRIVE, its mission, students and fellow teachers; I will always support that partnership and vision.

• I will always conduct myself professionally in speech, action, and appearance.
• I will never put down another teacher or student; rather I will strive to lift them up.
• I will help my fellow teachers when they need help, and support them in their own journey to success.
• I will work with my fellow teachers and students to ensure our school is clean and welcoming at all times.
• I will participate in all staff meetings and will serve on committees as needed.
• When teachers are absent, I will do my part to ensure that the education of our students is not interrupted.
• I will help my students understand what it means to be a good team member.
