The LA SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking applicants for a Teacher, Outreach Services (Orientation and Mobility/ Visual Impairments), LSVI 2 vacancies. Position # and Position #
These are full time 9.5 months and 7.5 hours per day positions. TRAVEL WILL BE REQUIRED
To be filled for the school year. The Teacher, Outreach Services (Orientation and Mobility/ Visual Impairments) will provide needed services for students with visual impairments in the areas of visual impairments and Orientation and Mobility.

Minimum Qualifications• Bachelor's degree or higher in Education or a related field.
• Possess or is eligible for Louisiana Ancillary Certification in Orientation and Mobility as outlined in Part CXXXI, Title 28/Educaton;
Bulletin 746-Louisiana Standards for State Certification of School Personnel;
Chapter 4, Subchapter A-410 and or Visual Impairments.
• ACVREP OR NOMC Certification in Orientation and Mobility.
• If only certified in Visual Impairments, must be willing to obtain O&M Certification as a condition of employment.
• Knowledge of appropriate skills in orientation and mobility and the use of low vision aids.
• Must possess, or be willing to acquire, knowledge of and ability to apply current standards-based educational practices associated with children who are blind/visually impaired to a variety of settings
• Knowledge of appropriate teaching methods in orientation and mobility and other aids related to visual impairments/blindness which cover the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) for the Visually Impaired.
• Must possess a current Driver's License and the ability to be certified through the State Driver Safety Program
• Must have access to reliable transportation to retrieve/return state vehicles and/or rental vehicles in order to perform job duties. Must have access to personal telephone services quent travel greater than 100 miles/day is required
Program Management Responsibilities
- Implement Louisiana Schools for the Deaf and Visually Impaired (LSDVI) instructional philosophy, program, and curricula when providing outreach services to children and their families.
- Exhibit knowledge of special education rules and regulations associated with implementation of state and federal laws.
- Exhibit understanding of children with disabilities and their needs, especially the children with visual impairments served by the school and demonstrate awareness of specialists, agencies, and organizations that serve children with disabilities and their families.
- Demonstrate appropriate and effective office management skills such as planning, organizing and implementing.
- Exercise good judgment in making decisions.
- Maintain accurate records of contacts, instructional strategies implemented, current calendar of appointments, expense account forms, inventory records and student records; exercise confidentiality of information in accordance with requirements of the law.
- Apply knowledge and skills of program supervision demonstrating appropriate and effective interpersonal skills.
- Maintain a positive relationship with professional associates, the community, the parents of the students and state and local agencies.
