Job Description:
GEO Academies Baton Rouge is seeking a Child Specific Aide to join our team.
We are seeking an experienced child specific aide to join our team. As a Child Specific Aide, you will be responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in meeting the physical and instructional needs of a student with a disability in the educational setting.
Services consist of, but are not limited to, assisting with the implementation of classroom programs, including academic instruction, behavior management, and self-help. The Child Specific Aide, under general supervision of the school administration and immediate direction of the certified teacher.
Responsibilities (includes, but are not limited to):- Assists teachers with the implementation of academic instruction, self-care, social skills instruction, and behavior management
- Assists student with a physical disability according to student needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning (if needed)
- Assists student with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene (if needed)
- Assumes responsibility for learning and adapting to the student’s medical, physical, social and communicative needs
- Maintains supervision of the student throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom
- Keeps teachers informed of special needs or problems of the individual student
- Participates in staff professional development training, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
- Maintains a professional level of confidentiality concerning personnel and students
- Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Patience and empathy when working with students
- Ability to support individual and diverse student needs, including behavior
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Previous experience in an educational setting is a plus, but not required
- A passion for supporting student learning and development
- A minimum of an Associates degree or completion of two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education or passing scores on the ETS Parapro Exam
