Compensation
: $28 - $45/hr depending upon qualifications.
We are seeking a skilled CAD Operator to support our industrial facilities in Baton Rouge and Geismar, Louisiana. The primary responsibility will be updating Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in response to Management of Change (MOC) initiatives. This role ensures that process documentation remains accurate, current, and compliant following approved changes to equipment, processes, or systems. Occasional field verification of P&IDs in active plant environments will also be required.
Responsibilities- Update and revise existing P&IDs using CAD software (primarily AutoCAD or similar tools) to reflect approved MOC changes, including modifications to equipment, piping, instrumentation, valves, and process flows.
- Interpret engineering markups, redlines, MOC documentation, and other technical inputs to accurately incorporate changes into drawings.
- Maintain version control, drawing files, and documentation databases to ensure traceability and compliance with internal standards.
- Perform occasional field walks in operating industrial plant environments to verify as-built conditions, confirm P&, and identify discrepancies for correction.
- Collaborate closely with process engineers, project managers, operations personnel, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve drawing issues.
- Ensure all updates adhere to relevant industry standards, safety protocols, and site-specific drafting conventions.
- Assist with general CAD-related tasks as needed to support engineering and maintenance activities.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or associate degree in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (or comparable CAD software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D) with demonstrated experience creating or updating technical drawings, preferably P&IDs.
- 2+ years of experience in a CAD drafting role, ideally in a chemical, petrochemical, refining, or heavy industrial setting.
- Familiarity with P&, process flow diagrams, instrumentation standards (e.g., ISA), and Management of Change (MOC) processes is highly desirable.
- Basic understanding of industrial plant operations and safety practices; prior experience working in or around active plant environments is beneficial for field verification duties.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple updates concurrently.
- Effective communication skills to interact with multidisciplinary teams and interpret technical feedback.
- Ability to read and understand engineering documents, markups, and specifications.
- Willingness to occasionally work in plant settings (may involve PPE, walking on uneven surfaces, exposure to industrial noise/conditions).
- Experience with document management systems or drawing databases.
- Knowledge of chemical/process industry standards and regulations (e.g., PSM elements related to MOC).
- Ability to perform basic field measurements or sketches when verifying drawings.
- Experience with Documentum and/or Autodesk Vault is a plus.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
