Job Description
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior High Voltage Substation Inspector for our Power Constructors, Inc. (PCI) sector for our Baton Rouge, Louisiana office. This position will have the ability to work remotely from any mutually acceptable location and may require up to 100% travel. ThisOpportunity
Provides inspection support, technical guidance, and oversight to ensure and validate construction compliance with plans, specifications, contract documents, and codified requirements. Responsibilities involve performing and overseeing field inspections on various multi‑site/phase construction projects of moderate to larger scale, scope, and/or complexity, including examining and evaluating the placement of concrete, installation of underground pipelines, earthwork and roadway paving, buildings, structures, systems, building materials, mechanical and electrical installations, foundations, and environment.
Generates and substantiates reports and documentation regarding equipment, construction, materials, integration, and operation specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, functionality, and sustainability.
Delivers advanced technical support across high voltage substation and infrastructure‑related field activities by performing complex assignments and overseeing on‑site operations. Applies deep knowledge of field procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements to lead inspections, data collection, sampling, and technical troubleshooting. Serves as a field resource for resolving non‑routine challenges, ensuring quality control, and maintaining operational continuity. Provides technical direction to junior staff, supports project execution, and contributes to risk mitigation and compliance efforts across diverse and active field environments.

Required Qualifications
- 9+ years of active field experience, computer skills (to properly fill out daily and weekly reports), and capability in photo documentation with working knowledge of Word and Excel
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Travel requirement based on project location
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordination and reporting
- Physical ability to work in rugged environments and perform field labor as needed
- Ability to resolve minor issues independently and escalated larger risks appropriately
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Strong attention to safety, accuracy, and compliance in all field tasks
- Organized and responsive to changing site conditions or project priorities
- Understanding of environmental protection and workplace safety culture
- Capable of representing field operations in meetings with internal or external stakeholders
- Demonstrated commitment to reliability, accountability, and professional conduct
- Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with contractors, regulators, and clients in the field
- Associate’s Degree
- Technical certificate or associate degree in environmental science, construction management, or related discipline
- Knowledge of transmission line work, foundations and stringing of conductors, and transmission substations and facilities, all strongly preferred
- OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification and First Aid/CPR certification
- May require up to 12‑hour days, 5 to 6 days a week if project requires
- Able and willing to travel and stay for a minimum of 6 weeks at a time for a project
- Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions for up to 12 hours a day
