BIM Coordinator

Job Summary

Sets up Revit models, Autodesk Construction Cloud projects, drafts the BIM execution plan, and exports Revit models to AutoCAD. Understands how each discipline contributes to the overall project scope and execution.

Performs clash detection and creates boundaries at the direction of the BIM Specialist. Identifies key components in the model and understands their relationship to the discipline scope. Reviews project documentation or existing information to determine the correct project coordinate system and scope. Identifies and understands each model component and how it contributes to the project scope.

• Coordinators are expected to observe professional ethics in their association with others including fellow employees, clients, and vendors.
• Reviews rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from the project team.
• Reviews project scope of work and notifies project management of any perceived changes in scope that may appear during the design phase.
• Reviews the design input and communicates any ambiguous, incomplete, or conflicting information to the supplier of the input for resolution (includes processing information such as vendor drawings, marked‑up drawings, design basis, notes, and verbal instructions).
• Reviews design output to verify it meets design input (i.e., verifies output meets design basis, design input and standard industry practices).
• Performs work related to design changes after validated documents are issued and notifies project management of any perceived changes in scope resulting from the change.
• Conforms to Jedson Engineering Inc., drafting and quality standards.
• Other duties as assigned.

A basic level of competency in 2‑D and 3‑D software is required – specifically AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and Plant 3‑D. The ability to understand how models are generated and set up is key to being successful.

An associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school and 5 to 7 years of experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
