As a Wastewater Operator
, you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services – uninterrupted. Based in Baton Rouge, LA (North Plant), you’ll perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant. You’ll contribute to the success of our program with efficient preventive maintenance, establishing and maintaining effective sample procedures of plant operations and effluent, and providing effective solutions to complex challenges that may arise.

You’ll diagnose operating problems, make process control adjustments, direct and perform necessary corrective action. You’ll also prepare reports, collect samples, perform laboratory testing, determine proper chemical flow rates, maintain shift logs and perform other duties as required. Most importantly, you’ll take action to ensure the safety, health and well‑being of you and your team.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/ wastewater, sludge, and effluent
  • Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels
  • Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings
  • Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control
  • Trains junior Operations staff
  • Directs the work in the operation and minor maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant
  • Starts and stops pump, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
  • Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings
  • Collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses
  • Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
  • Makes operating decisions in absence of supervisory personnel
  • Belt Filter Press operations
  • Understands and carries out oral and written directions
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work
  • Performs other duties as required

Required Qualifications
  • State of Louisiana Level II Wastewater Operator License is required
  • Experience in operating wastewater treatment plants
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with no major infractions
Preferred Qualifications
  • State of Louisiana Level III Wastewater Operator License preferred or ability to obtain through within 12 months of hire
  • Basic familiarity of the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical sewage analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment processes; safe work practices
  • Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, data management systems and be able to operate plant PLC’s and SCADA systems
