The Equipment Engineer – Fired Equipment provides technical engineering support for fired equipment across refinery and chemical plant operations. This role serves as the primary engineering point of contact for boilers, flares, thermal oxidizers, and other fired equipment, supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operation. The position focuses on troubleshooting, strategy development, maintenance planning, and long-term asset reliability for fired equipment systems.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the primary point of contact (POC) for fired equipment support, including boilers, flares, and thermal oxidizers.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting support; take ownership of issues escalated from specialists when problems cannot be resolved at the frontline level.
- Support base operations, including day‑to‑day equipment performance monitoring and operational issue resolution.
- Lead and support turnaround planning activities specific to fired equipment.
- Develop annual maintenance plans, scope selection, and execution strategies for fired equipment assets.
- Support strategic planning, forecasting, and long‑term reliability initiatives for fired equipment.
- Perform equipment engineering evaluations and recommend design, operational, or maintenance improvements to enhance safety, reliability, and performance.
- Support and manage equipment‑related projects, including troubleshooting‑driven and improvement‑based projects.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, and other Engineering disciplines.
- Communicate effectively across teams, providing technical guidance and recommendations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering (required)
- 2–5+ years of relevant engineering experience (fired equipment experience strongly preferred)
- Direct experience with boilers, thermal oxidizers, fired heaters, or related fired equipment
- Background in operations support, troubleshooting, and/or project execution
- Strong working knowledge of standard engineering concepts, practices, and procedures related to fired equipment
- Ability to anticipate and solve problems by integrating operational, mechanical, and process knowledge
- Capable of independently owning and executing work with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills with the ability to support and assist cross‑functional teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Experience with fired heater simulators is a plus
