Environmental Chemical Specialist Advanced

The Air Permits Division’s Manufacturing Section is seeking a qualified Environmental Chemical Specialist (ECS) Advanced to perform complex scientific and technical work in support of air permitting and regulatory compliance programs. This position serves as a technical expert for the Section and provides advanced-level support to ensure consistency with applicable federal and state air quality laws and regulations.

• A bachelor’s degree in an engineering field plus three years of experience in process design
• A master’s degree in an engineering field or a chemical or physical science field plus two years of experience in process design
• A doctorate degree in an engineering field or a chemical or physical science field plus one year of experience in process design
• Internal promotion open only to current permanent employees of DEQ

• Conducting detailed technical reviews of Title V, PSD, and New Source Review (NSR) permits prepared by Environmental Scientists (ES) and ECSs
• Collaborating with staff to develop and improve procedures, processes, tools, and methods to enhance consistency, productivity, and efficiency
• Entering required data from issued NSR permits into the RACT/BACT/LAER Clearinghouse (RBLC) within established time frames, in accordance with Performance Partnership Grant commitments
• Assisting in responding to inquiries related to environmental regulations and permitting from the public, environmental organizations, co-workers, and the regulated community

• Compensation: Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
