Our Baton Rouge Risk Assessment, Remediation, and Waste Program is seeking an Environmental Waste Specialist to support a variety of solid and hazardous waste management, compliance, and remediation projects. This position is ideal for an individual with several years of environmental, waste management, industrial, or regulatory compliance experience who is looking to expand their technical expertise and project responsibilities.

This role includes both field and office work and provides opportunities to work alongside experienced environmental professionals, including Professional Engineers, Professional Geologists, and Senior Scientists. The successful candidate will assist with a wide range of environmental compliance and waste management projects for industrial, commercial, and governmental clients.

Responsibilities Include
  • Assist with solid and hazardous waste permitting, reporting, and compliance activities;
  • Conduct facility inspections and compliance assessments;
  • Prepare or support preparation of waste management plans, closure plans, and regulatory reports;
  • Develop waste facility closure and post-closure cost estimates;
  • Assist with tank compliance activities and certifications;
  • Perform tank and containment volume calculations;
  • Collect, organize, and evaluate environmental data;
  • Prepare figures, maps, data tables, and trend analyses for technical reports;
  • Support risk assessment, site investigation, and remediation projects as needed;
  • Coordinate with project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies; and
  • Travel to project sites and CK offices as needed.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3–7 years of experience in environmental compliance, waste management, industrial operations, environmental consulting, remediation, or a related field;
  • Experience with solid and hazardous waste management, permitting, reporting, or compliance activities preferred;
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations including RCRA, CERCLA, TSCA, and applicable state regulations preferred;
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements;
  • Strong technical writing, communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications;
  • Ability to interpret regulations and apply them to real‑world compliance situations;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously;
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive client relationships;
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and client facilities (approximately 25% travel, including occasional overnight stays);
  • Must be able to satisfy all Drug & Alcohol, Health & Safety, and Security requirements, including obtaining a TWIC card;
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and ability to safely operate a full-size pickup truck; and
  • Motivated to succeed both independently and as part of a team.

  • Groundwater monitoring and sampling;
  • Closure and post-closure care activities;
  • Environmental reporting and recordkeeping; and
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies.
