Position: LUH72 Aircraft Mechanic II

Job Overview

The LUH
72 Aircraft Mechanic II performs the full range of military tactical aircraft maintenance and maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty. Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation.

Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals. Requires working knowledge of technical publications.

Responsibilities
  • Receives technical guidance from supervisors or higher-level technicians and may lead teams on more complex aircraft tasks, including making entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Prioritizes workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Removes and installs aircraft subsystem assemblies and components such as engines, rotors, transmissions, mechanical flight controls and their components.
  • Services and lubricates aircraft and subsystems.
  • Safely prepares aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks, performs scheduled inspections, and assists in special inspections.
  • Performs limited maintenance operational checks and diagnoses and troubleshoots aircraft systems using special tools and test equipment.
  • Operates and maintains tools, special tools and aircraft ground support equipment.
  • Participates in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
  • Inspects all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by an Aircraft Mechanic I.
  • Opens Flexible Engine Diagnostic System (FEDS) operations when assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Valid up-to-date A&P license.
  • Two (2) years aviation maintenance experience.
  • Three (3) years rotary wing aircraft experience.
  • Two (2) years on the assigned Mission Design Series.
  • All experience must be within the five most recent years.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization at this work site.
  • Must provide own tool set and toolbox; all tools must be shadowed and etched with PID.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Good communication skills, adaptability, and ability to troubleshoot entire aircraft systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical and associated system principles.
  • Knowledge of quality control, production and supply procedures.
  • Proficiency with common hand tools and measuring devices such as gauges, torque wrenches, scales, and test, measurement and diagnostic equipment related to specific aircraft models.
  • Ability to determine when faulty systems or assemblies require repair or replacement and assess the extent of repair.
  • Skill in reading, applying and interpreting technical data.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment

Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 20 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds. Most heavy lifting is accomplished through mechanical devices. May work in an aircraft maintenance hangar or outside and may be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.

May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft, fumes or airborne particles, electrical shock hazards, or moving mechanical parts.

Compensation

The hourly rate is approximately 36.88. This compensation range is a good‑faith estimate and may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
