Professional Licensed Surveyor; PLS​/Senior Surveyor

Position Overview

Waggoner Engineering is hiring a PLS/Senior Surveyor for its Baton Rouge, LA office. This role is a project management and project delivery position, overseeing topographic and boundary surveys for LA DOTD, NRCS, municipal, and transportation projects.

Signing bonus: $10,000.

• Promote Waggoner’s “Quality First” management approach within all aspects of the surveying business.
• Serve as the surveying professional of record/ responsible charge for various types of surveys, collaborating with field and office staff to deliver projects.
• Meet with clients to develop project scope, budget, and schedule.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of field crews, land surveyor interns, and survey support staff.
• Manage all survey equipment, ensuring calibration, functionality, and updates, and may delegate to staff.
• Manage surveying vehicles and supplies.
• Report to the PLS / Survey Department Manager.
• Provide technical delivery of projects including data collection, field to finish, data processing, and electronic deliverables.
• Coordinate and communicate with project team members to meet client needs and keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Provide independent QA/QC checks.
• Use Trimble Business Center, Leica Infinity, Civil3D, Micro Station/InRoads software.
• Conduct weekly safety meetings.

• Projects include control, topographic, boundary, construction stake‑out, as‑built, route surveys, and subsurface utility engineering surveys.
• Compile and research projects prior to starting work.
• Establish cost estimate proposals, scope of work, and schedules for negotiations with clients.
• Ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.

• Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the State of Louisiana with the ability and desire to obtain licenses in Mississippi and Florida.
• 6+ years of experience in topographic and boundary surveying and survey project management.
• Experience with Louisiana DOTD and/or NRCS projects preferred.
• Proficiency with Trimble GPS / Trimble Business Center and Leica Total Station equipment / Leica Infinity software preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history.
