Job Description
WSP is currently initiating a search for a High Voltage Transmission Line Inspector for our Power Constructors, Inc. (PCI) sector in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This position may be up to 100% remote and/or travel.
This OpportunityProvides inspection support to engineers and project managers to ensure construction compliance with plans, specifications, contract documents, and codified requirements. Responsibilities include performing field inspections on moderate‑scale projects (concrete placement, underground pipelines, road paving, buildings, structures, systems, foundations, and environmental aspects). Generates accurate documentation and ensures quality standards for design, safety, functionality, and sustainability.
Your Impact- Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, plans, and technical drawings for single, multi‑phase, or multi‑site inspections.
- Use survey instruments and test equipment to perform inspections on projects of moderate complexity, confirming conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and permits.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance for buildings, highways, roads, bridges, infrastructure, equipment, and mechanical systems according to specifications.
- Act as consultant on work progress, resolve issues, and may serve as the primary inspector or assist in overseeing moderate‑scope projects within a district.
- Verify load calculations, interpret contract plans, resolve specification differences, and ensure contractor compliance.
- Document progress and issues, coordinate with cross‑functional teams, and participate in pre‑construction meetings.
- Assist with payment calculations, write technical reports, and support risk identification and resolution.
- Plan field work, review staffing, equipment usage, and cost estimates while providing guidance and training to entry‑level staff.
- Maintain ethical decision‑making and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma and a minimum of 9 years of post‑education construction inspection experience.
- Computer skills for daily reporting and photo documentation (Word, Excel).
- Valid professional licensure/certification(s) and a valid state driver’s license.
- Must pass a Motor Vehicle Report background check.
- Deep knowledge of construction inspection principles, field practices, and construction codes.
- Strong analytical mindset and sound judgment in evaluating situations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Self‑leadership, detail orientation, multitasking, and prioritization.
- Proficient with technical writing, office automation, spreadsheets, and software tools.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving to analyze results and calculations.
- Ability to direct subcontractors and junior staff safely and accurately.
- Track record of workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health and safety policies.
- Capacity to work schedules beyond the typical workweek and travel as required.
- Will travel depending on project requirements.
- Up to 12‑hour days, 5‑6 days a week if project demands.
- Ability to travel and stay for a minimum of six weeks per project.
- Work in extreme weather conditions for up to 12 hours a day.
- Wear company‑provided PPE throughout the shift.
- Lift at least 50 lbs throughout the day.
- Walk 3‑5 miles daily across rough terrain.
- Step in and out of a 3/4‑ton pickup truck multiple times daily.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline is preferred.
- Knowledge of transmission line work, foundations, stringing of conductors, and substations.
