Civil Estimator
Job Location:
Baton Rouge, LA Base Salary: $115K-$145K
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our civil and roadway construction team. The Estimator will prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates and bids for projects involving right-of-way (ROW), roadway, clearing, sitework, and access improvements. This role requires strong analytical skills, construction knowledge, and the ability to collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure project scope, schedules, and budgets are fully understood and reflected in proposals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for civil and roadway projects, including ROW work, clearing, sitework, access construction, and roadway improvements.
- Review plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to identify scope, risks, and required resources.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes, maintain vendor relationships, and verify scope and pricing alignment.
- Develop complete bid packages, including labor, equipment, materials, overhead, and contingency allowances.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to clarify scope, assumptions, and constructability concerns during estimating and pre-bid phases.
- Maintain and update historical cost databases, unit cost libraries, and estimation templates to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Perform risk analysis and develop value engineering alternatives to optimize costs while maintaining quality and compliance.
- Prepare bid summaries, recommendations, and presentations for internal review and client submittal.
- Support post-bid activities, including bid reconciliation, scope negotiations, and transition of awarded work to operations.
- Ensure compliance with company estimating standards, safety requirements, contract terms, and applicable codes and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of estimating experience in civil construction, roadway projects, or related disciplines with proven success in preparing competitive bids.
- Strong knowledge of ROW processes, clearing, sitework, access construction, roadway earthworks, paving, drainage, and erosion control.
- Proficient with estimating software (e.g., HCSS, Heavy Bid, B2W), takeoff tools, and Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with experience coordinating subcontractors and suppliers.
