Overview
Join ENERCON’s Design Services Group as an I&C Design Engineering Manager. In this role, you’ll oversee a talented engineering unit, directing projects to success and ensuring quality standards. Your leadership will extend to business development, staff development, and organizational support, driving the team toward achieving business goals. This role can be based in multiple office locations throughout the US.

- Products & Deliverables:
Serve as the focal point for initial unit contact to Management, Project Managers (PM) and other internal constituents. Together with the PMs and lead engineers, define the scope of work for work proposals. Direct/assign work to the unit to balance activities between work groups. Maintain responsibility for the unit’s quality and establish and enforce quality standards for the unit. Accept unit’s responsibility of budget and schedule for assigned projects.
Assign unit’s Responsible Engineers (RE) and provide recommendation to the Client Engineering Manager of Lead Responsible Engineer (LRE) for unit led projects. Responsible for the approval of engineering documents produced by the unit. Certify design documents as required by state and local client and code requirements. - Business Development:
Lead proposal preparation with input for scope and budget to PMs. Develop professional relationships with client counterparts. Assist in marketing the unit’s expertise and abilities to clients. - Leadership & Staff Development:
Identify and promote opportunities for site work. Identify and promote training opportunities (e.g., owner’s groups, manufacturers, professional societies). Utilize the review/approval process of deliverables as a technical training opportunity for staff. Provide timely and appropriate performance feedback and coaching. Promote professional development (e.g., professional licenses, certifications, and client qualifications). Support company policies and procedures. Demonstrate technical leadership and coordinate with Subject Matter Experts to resolve technical issues.
Support the Client Engineering Manager in maintaining, updating, and executing Continuous Improvement Plans. Supervise an engineering unit comprised of lead engineers and engineering staff. - Organizational Support:
Assign engineering resources to projects. Maintain short and long-range staffing projections. Approve timesheets and expense reports of direct reports. Conduct annual performance appraisals. Support management in recruiting new employees. - Contribution to Business Goals:
Meet applied time goals for the position/division/discipline.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited university
- Typically requires a minimum of 6 years of engineering experience including experience supporting the nuclear power industry and 2+ years of leadership experience for Manager role
- PE License is required
- Ability to gain and maintain unescorted access at nuclear sites
- Experience working in a Nuclear Power Plant environment and familiarity with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) governing codes
- Excellent verbal communication skills; comfortable and effective communicator with the team, clients, management, etc.
- Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail
- Strong coordination and team-building skills; demonstrated ability to work across disciplines, divisions, and teams
- Ability to assess and understand team strengths and weaknesses and adjust the level of support/oversight as appropriate
- Ability to motivate the team and achieve goals through a positive, winning attitude and effective leadership style consistent with ENERCON’s Defining Excellence fundamentals
- Problem-solving and general scientific evaluation skills
- Willingness to travel up to 15–25% of the time to client sites (at least once per month) for project and/or marketing meetings
