About This PositionThis position is responsible for conducting inventories and inspections of approximately 14,000 bridges throughout the state.
While in an official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.
Minimum QualificationsPossession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
Applicants holding a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana may apply; however the applicant must obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.
Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board.

Job Duties- Performs QA bridge field inspections and engineering analysis of on‑system and off‑system bridge inspection data to make decisions on the development of QA selection criteria to ensure the safety of the traveling public and comply with the Code of Federal Regulations.
- Assists the Bridge Inspection Engineer (Engineer 7 DOTD) with development, advertisement and management of consultant contracts for the performance of specialized bridge inspections (NSTM, underwater, in‑depth, etc.) to ensure compliance with 23 CFR 650 Subpart C and the National Bridge Inspection Program.
- Perform QA review of bridge inspection reports conducted by consultants (NSTM, in‑depth, underwater, etc.) or in‑house inspectors (initial, HQ‑QA, etc.) as needed.
- Assists the Bridge Inspection Engineer in administering the bridge inspection program by helping to develop and execute policies and procedures regarding specialized bridge inspection programs such as load rating, underwater, in‑depth, NSTM evaluation and bridge structural repairs.

Career Progression:
This position may be filled as an Engineer Intern 1 up to Engineer 5 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
- Engineer Intern 1 – SER rate of $2,115.20 bi‑weekly.
- Engineer Intern 2 – SER rate of $2,263.20 bi‑weekly.
- Engineer 3 – SER rate of $2,671.20 bi‑weekly.
- Engineer 4 – SER rate of $2,952.00 bi‑weekly.
- Engineer 5 – SER rate of $3,158.40 bi‑weekly.
