This position independently serves as the manager of the statewide bridge load rating group responsible for the structural evaluation and continuous monitoring of all bridges in Louisiana for load rating, load posting and truck permit evaluation as mandated 23 CFR 650. The structures and Facilities Maintenance Section is responsible for the safety and maintenance inspection of all 13,000 public bridges.
While in an official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.
Minimum QualificationsPossession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:
Two years of licensed engineering experience; or Six years of professional engineering experience. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience. A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience. Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of professional engineering experience. There is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.
NOTES:
Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience. Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience. Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana.
If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. Job Duties:
- Supervise, coordinate, direct and assist with the bridge load rating for in-house and consultant's load rating for the new bridges and for re-rating of existing bridges based on the inspection conditions.
- Perform consultant selection, negotiation activities, project management and task management associated with consultant bridge load rating projects.
- Assist vehicle permit offices with updating Truck Route Maps and to implement the automation program.
- Provide assistance to the Engineer 7 with technical guidance, developing policies, developing procedures and by participating in special assignments
