The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's Waste Permits Division is seeking to fill an Environmental Chemical Specialist Advanced position that plays a critical role in protecting public health and the environment through the review and evaluation of solid waste permit applications. This position provides advanced technical and regulatory expertise in the assessment of solid waste facilities, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental requirements.
The successful candidate will support the Department's mission by conducting complex permit reviews, coordinating with stakeholders, and contributing to sound environmental decision-making that directly impacts waste management practices across Louisiana.
A bachelor's degree in an engineering field plus three years of experience in process design; OR A master's degree in an engineering field or a chemical or physical science field plus two years of experience in process design; OR A doctorate degree in an engineering field or a chemical or physical science field plus one year of experience in process design.
Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:
- Review and evaluate solid waste permit applications and supporting technical documents for compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.
- Conduct technical analyses of engineering, environmental, and operational information related to solid waste management facilities.
- Coordinate with applicants, consultants, and regulatory agencies to resolve technical and permitting issues.
- Prepare permit decisions, technical reports, and correspondence to support regulatory and environmental protection objectives.
- Provide technical expertise and recommendations to ensure the safe and effective management of solid waste facilities throughout Louisiana.

Compensation:
This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
