Planner IV

What You’ll Do

• Lead aspects of internal and external coordination with project team members, including other discipline areas involved with the project.
• Develop and maintain client meetings and interactions.
• Conduct or direct research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning, and formulate recommendations.
• Develop conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects.
• Lead tasks under general direction related to the preparation and production of technical plans, studies, written reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.
• Take responsibility for significant portions of presentations and public facilitation.
• Coordinate with clients, sub-consultants, and in‑house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.
• Assist in directing teams for small or medium‑sized tasks for projects.
• Mentor and provide direction on the work of less experienced staff.
• Assist in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals and responses to RFPs for projects.
• Write major sections of and lead production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects; also coordinate and synthesize contributions of others.
• Research data sources, gather data, and conduct analysis for use in projects.
• Develop planning and analysis strategies using tools such as GIS, traffic, or safety software to manipulate data, assess scenarios, and perform project analysis.
• Lead planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or a related field and 6 years related professional experience, or Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of relevant experience.

• Remain aware of new software tools available and stay current with the latest industry tools.
• Integrate different sources of data to provide findings and recommendations to more experienced staff to move the project forward and determine solutions.
• Provide direction to less experienced staff.
• Develop a research plan and supervise the research and technical analysis of less experienced staff.
• Lead the preparation of the report by writing portions of the report and reviewing and incorporating materials from others.
• Manage a portion of the agenda by leading the discussion of an agenda item.

• Master’s degree in Urban Planning or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE), American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP), Professional Transportation Planner (PTP), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Envision, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP).
