The incumbent of this position prepares detailed engineering design drawings and cost estimates for the most complex engineering projects including, but not limited to freeways, interchanges and innovative intersections, major urban and rural highways, and major bridge replacement projects. These projects include highly detailed designs that attempt to minimize impacts on environmentally sensitive locations and commercial and residential properties. Some common tasks include establishing typical sections, setting vertical and horizontal grades.
The incumbent at this level will independently develop and manage design plans for a roadway construction project from inception to letting.
- Independently develop and manage design plans for a roadway construction project from inception to letting.
- Perform as Project Manager on in‑house or consultant‑designed projects with responsibility for developing and maintaining project scopes; project and plan development schedules and ensuring projects are designed and delivered within the allotted budget.
- Manage consultant contracts by developing project scopes, negotiating man‑hours and fees, establishing contract time requirements, establishing design criteria, monitoring progress for work quality and quantity, reviewing acceptability of plans and approving invoices for payment.
Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
- Engineer Intern 1: Requires possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
- Engineer Intern 2: Requires possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate plus one year of professional engineering experience.
- Engineer 3: Requires possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
- Engineer 4: Requires possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus either one year of licensed engineering experience or five years of professional engineering experience.
- Engineer 5: Requires possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus either two years of licensed engineering experience or six years of professional engineering experience.
Special Entrance Rates:
- Engineer Intern 1 – $2,115.20 biweekly
- Engineer Intern 2 – $2,263.20 biweekly
- Engineer 3 – $2,671.20 biweekly
- Engineer 4 – $2,952.00 biweekly
- Engineer 5 – $3,158.40 biweekly
This position is in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and is being posted at the following levels:
Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1, Engineer Intern 2, Engineer 3, Engineer 4, or Engineer 5. The maximum annual salary for the Engineer 5 is $.
This position may be filled as either a probationary appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency‑wide permanent status employees); a job appointment, or by detail to special duty.
Temporary StatusThis is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.
