About This Position
This position performs dam safety inspections, engineering, and technical review of plans and specifications for compliance with Louisiana dam safety rules and regulations. The incumbent is the statewide expert in dam safety inspections and remote sensing, interacting with governmental officials at the local, state, and federal levels. The incumbent also evaluates, develops, and maintains highly specialized technical processes for the dam safety field and program.
Minimum Qualifications- Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:
- Two years of licensed engineering experience; or
- Six years of professional engineering experience.
Experience substitutions: A master’s degree in engineering substitutes for one year of professional engineering experience; a doctorate degree substitutes for two years; advanced degrees substitute for up to two years; there is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.
Supplemental Qualifications- Two years of licensed engineering experience working in dam safety.
- Six years of professional engineering experience working in dam safety.
- Manager of inspections for dams/impoundments meeting LA RS 38:21 and 24 requirements.
- Schedule, coordinate, and participate with consulting engineering firms, state and local officials, DOTD personnel, and private entities on inspections to ensure compliance with state dam safety rules.
- Actively manage the geospatial database to ensure secure archival of data and inspection records.
- Perform specialized engineering activities such as design standards development for dam design and construction.
- Serve as the state expert in the use of remote sensing technologies, including drone-enabled sensors, for dam inspection and assessment.
- Represent the Dam Safety Unit Head in matters related to the Dam Safety Program as needed.
Appointment Type:
Permanent DOTD employee.
Compensation:
Biweekly SER rate of $3,316.00.
