Environmental Chemical Specialist Advanced
The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Environmental Services has a vacancy. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare.
In this role, the LDEQ’s Waste Permits Division seeks an Environmental Chemical Specialist Advanced to protect public health and the environment by reviewing and evaluating solid waste permit applications. The professional will provide advanced technical and regulatory expertise in the assessment of solid waste facilities, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental requirements. The successful candidate will conduct complex permit reviews, coordinate with stakeholders, and contribute to sound environmental decision‑making that directly impacts waste management practices across Louisiana.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field plus three years of experience in process design;
- Master’s degree in an engineering field or a chemical or physical science field plus two years of experience in process design;
- Doctorate degree in an engineering field or a chemical or physical science field plus one year of experience in process design.
- Review and evaluate solid waste permit applications and supporting technical documents for compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.
- Conduct technical analyses of engineering, environmental, and operational information related to solid waste management facilities.
- Coordinate with applicants, consultants, and regulatory agencies to resolve technical and permitting issues.
- Prepare permit decisions, technical reports, and correspondence to support regulatory and environmental protection objectives.
- Provide technical expertise and recommendations to ensure the safe and effective management of solid waste facilities throughout Louisiana.

Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
