DOTD is seeking a Bridge and Structural Design Engineer to support transportation projects and programs through bridge and structural design, bridge preservation, load rating, plan development, and technical support for transportation infrastructure projects. This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews.
Positions are located in East Baton Rouge Parish, and reports to the Engineer 6.
While in an official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum QualificationsPossession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
NotesApplications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.

Job DutiesJob Duties and Other Information
- Assists with bridge and structural design activities for transportation infrastructure projects.
- Reviews or prepares plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, and structural details.
- Performs or assists with bridge load ratings, structural evaluations, or bridge preservation activities.
- Provides technical support related to bridge rehabilitation, replacement, preservation, or new capacity projects.
- Coordinates with project managers, consultants, districts, construction staff, and other internal or external partners.
- Reviews bridge-related project documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Supports development or maintenance of design guidance, standards, procedures, or technical documents.
- Assists with emergency response or technical reviews involving bridge or structural concerns.
Career Progression:
This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as an Engineer 3, Engineer 4, or Engineer 5.
The following reflects the beginning biweekly salary for each level. A Special Entrance Rate (SER) may apply to qualifying positions.
- Engineer 3 – SER at $2,671.20 biweekly
- Engineer 4 – SER at $2,952.00 biweekly
- Engineer 5 – SER at $3,158.40 biweekly
Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
